This is my friend Bill Doran, otherwise known as chinbeard or the amazing prop wizard behind Punished Props. Chances are, you’ve seen his Shepard or Hawke, his Carnifex or Phalanx, his Kerrigan Ghost Rifle or his Halo Sniper Rifle,  his Keening or his Protoss Pylons, or one of his many other incredible props.

Over a year ago, Bill quit his day job to make propmaking his full-time career, but he hasn’t stopped there. He currently aspires towards developing and selling some original designs, the first one being his Space Gun, seen in all the photos above. He’s designed it to be modular and really customizable, so the possibilities are endless!

Thing is, for him to undertake such an operation, he needs to upgrade his arsenal of tools and probably have people help him do all that molding and casting (which takes forever, I’ve seen him do it, I’ll happily remain a seamstress over here). To help him reach his goals, he’s set up this handy Kickstarter!

One of my favorite things about Bill is the fact that he’s an overwhelmingly positive figure for aspiring cosplayers and prop makers. His techniques are generally more advanced, but he’s always eager to give advice and help out where he can. Speaking personally, he’s always been of enormous help to Beth and I, letting us work in his space and borrow his tools, and generally pick his brain for ideas on how to construct things.

One of his donor tiers, at only $5, is actually to pick up a digital booklet of A Beginner’s Guide to Making Mind Blowing Props: Cheap and easy ways to create amazing props that will make YOU stand out from the crowd. If you’re interested in cosplay or propmaking, this is an ENORMOUSLY useful first step from someone who knows what he’s talking about, and a really easy way to give a great person another leg up towards his dreams.

If you could spare $5 to get the booklet, or heck, even spare a reblog or share or just generally bring it to the attention of other propmakers or cosplayers, Bill and I would be incredibly grateful. Any bit of help would put Bill one step closer to achieving his dreams. Please help!

More shots from my impromptu shoot with KL Media! Lady M looks super classy in the Land of Graffiti and Urine.

“Did you see anything in the E3 presentations that interests you not only as a gamer, but also as a cosplayer?”

OTHER THAN GARDEN WARFARE?????

(sunflower cosplay coming in 2014 you decide how serious I’m being)

The obvious answers are ACIV and DA:I since hnnnnng yes, though not sure I can just yet. I wouldn’t cosplay anyone from the Inquisition trailer—I love Cass and Morrigan but I don’t think I’d cosplay either. As for Black Flag, I love some of the new multiplayer designs (Rebel and Lady Black speak to me), as well as Anne Bonny (that’s my historical ladyboner talking here), but I genuinely don’t have time in my current cosplay schedule to do anything before … god. Next year, possibly. So we’ll see.

Other than that, to be honest I’ve been so busy with work that I didn’t get to watch most of the presentations, so I’m pretty behind on my gamer news. Kingdom Hearts got me super excited though I’m already working on a Sora, and while I definitely want to FINALLY try Mirror’s Edge now that I have access to a PS3, I don’t know if there’s anyone I’d cosplay from this or the next game. Gotta play it first anyway.

At the end of the day, I tend to reserve my “I WANT TO MAKE THIS” urges to things that I’ve played or am familiar with. I’ll do BioWare/AC titles on principle because I love them, though I usually want to know a bit more about the character before I undertake a project. I also want to know the game/series I’m cosplaying from because, let’s face it, I’ve been asked enough times if I even play the games to not want to be caught with nothing to say. But more importantly, I want to have the passion for the series/character that’s going to make me want to finish the damn costume instead of throwing it across the room and burning it.

enayla:

KL Media captured some epic shots of my AC3 Independent with the lovely SubitoAllegra at Fanime this year! I was so surprised to find this wooded area right in the middle of urban San Jose and it fit too perfectly with the game.

Spoiler: I love working with Athena because she is awesome. Thank you to Keith for the gorgeous photos!

DO NOT BUY DR HOO PINS ON AMAZON

pupukachoo:

There is just a special layer of hell where you get a “suggested products you may enjoy” e-mail from Amazon and it’s your own stolen artwork.

image

Guys, please, PLEASE if you ever see the “Doctor Hoo” painting for sale ANYWHERE except for these websites

http://society6.com/pupukachoo/Doctor-Hoo-Painted-Version_Print

http://www.threadless.com/product/2899/DoctorHoo

it is a bootleg and it is stolen. I’m still paying off my student loans so I don’t exactly have much money to spare, so it would really mean a lot to me if you only ever purchase things directly from me or the websites I officially sell through.

Amazon has an incredibly low-tolerance for anything that violates our listing integrity. I’m looking into who she can contact to have this rectified, or to see if I can file any tickets of my own, but in the meantime, please buy any products that use the above artwork from one of the vendors listed above.
