This post has been going randomly crazy of late (HI EVERYONE GAH), so I figured I’d let you all know that Isabela and Aveline are still off having lots of shenanigans. YOU PUT THAT BACK IZZY (Aveline totally looks like she’s about to spank Isabela with her sword. Someone does need a spanking, after all….)

Sa and I don’t really act like this when we hang out. Okay maybe a little. There was that awesome bumper car showdown….

I’ve done a lot of thinking and listened to a lot of people’s opinions, and I’ve reached a decision. Looks like I’m just going to update my Default Isabela rather than make a Romanced Outfit. When I first played DA2, the game had a bug that basically had Isabela never switch out of her default outfit, even after you sleep with her. (Has that ever been patched, by the way?) So, for me, Isabela doesn’t *have* a Romanced Outfit. Potential symbolism aside, Isabela just never wears a black corset, for me.
So I’m definitely going to be updating parts of Isabela that have bugged me for a while. In an attempt to honor Jennifer’s original work, I’m actually going to go ahead and make a new corset as well, just so I can keep the original dress <3 Here’s what needs to be done by PAX Prime at the latest:
- new dress + corset- updated jewelry (except for the Dicks because they are eternal)- new armor (thanks, Beth!)- probably a new sash as well
I know I said last year that I had to put Izzy away, but I guess the answer is … no, I don’t. I can’t say there was any specific catalist (though learning the other day that Qunaribela was actually drawn like the one Spader and I made was an incredibly surprising, heartwarming, and humbling thing) so much as … well.
It turns out that Isabela will always be a costume I fall back on, even if I have to wear her a lot less due to other projects. Can’t stop, won’t stop.

subitoallegra:

Every once in a while, I open up this video again and giggle like a schoolgirl.

I miss you guys <3

(mainly this one because we are sooooo derpy I love it. though the audio delays on my clips will always bug the hell out of me, I swear)

You know, every time I’m feeling a bit down, I go look at the comments on this video. I know, YouTube comments? Make someone happy???!

But it’s true. It reminds me of this really fun time I had with three really great friends (even if I filmed my part from the other side of the continent), got to sing a song at David Gaider’s request (“Whatever Lola Wants,” of course), and just … I don’t know. Reading that reminds me of a lot of the reasons why I started cosplaying and keep cosplaying to this day.

Haters gonna hate, man. There are really sweet people out there, and while I cosplay for myself first, I cosplay for you guys too.

One other thing I want to share: many of the other awesome photos I was looking at using for the photoset, featuring many awesome friends and people who I’ve met or have been there for me as Isabela. There are so many more here than I could add, and so many people I wish I had actually gotten to take pictures with, but I trimmed it to one photoset, at least.

I’m bummed that I couldn’t add a lot more of these, including many that I didn’t end up showing here, but honestly, part of the reoccurring problem was that Beth was totally creepin’ on my pictures. GOD, BETHANY, GTFO OR SOMETHING

(nah BB it’s cool you can stay)

I am … actually stunned by the response I’ve gotten to my Isabela Appreciation Post from last night. Like, floored, and absolutely humbled as well. It is … okay I’m actually a little speechless and I’m not going to make any attempt to hide that.
I am, frankly … well. Touched. Downright touched by everything I’ve read. The words of encouragement for my own work, people sharing similar stories of a character inspiring them, and even a number of you saying that my words have inspired you or helped to motivate you in some way. I’m pretty candid in admitting that one of my actual dreams is to know that I’m having a positive impact on people, helping them push past a difficult time and/or inspiring them in some way, so knowing that I’ve done so is legitimately a dream come true for me. I can’t thank any of you enough.
I’ve chosen to make this post with one of the progress shots Jennifer took of me while we were working on Izzy, before we added grommets and pinned together the top, made the actual skirts, and long before the boots were in working condition. (That, amusingly, was the last thing we made, armormaking for SDCC excluded.)
I love this picture because … well, I look insecure. I’m not Isabela yet. I’m just a girl who really wants to be, who wants to be bold and beautiful and fearless, but isn’t quite there yet. The pants, after all, are still on.
You’ve read and now seen where I started, guys. I want you to know that you can take your own version of that journey, if it’s one you want or need to take.
I ended up posting an edited version of the post to my blog that expanded on a few thoughts, but I want to just copy-paste the last, completely new bit directly to Tumblr:

This is a challenge I issue to everyone: if you really love or are inspired by a person or fictional character, make something. It can be a story, an autobiographical reflection, a poem, a drawing, a painting, a doodle, a sculpture, a song, a fanmix, a costume, a prop, anything—something that encapsulates your love and admiration.
It doesn’t need to be perfect, because nothing is. Or, as Leonardo da Vinci once wrote: “Art is never finished, only abandoned.” Don’t torture yourself with reaching some ideal when what matters is the love you’re putting into the piece, and your next one will always be better than the one before.
Just make something and be proud of it. You made it out of love and you should feel pride, because it’s good to be proud of who you are and what you do. (That last lesson is one I still struggle with, personally.)
Or listen to Neil Gaiman tell you to Make Good Art because he is a wordsmith.
Either way: when you pour yourself into your art, your art becomes a part of you. The things you find inspirational will concretely inspire you. You will change and grow. And you will be stronger than you used to be. Trust me: I know this for reasons.
