My first solo project, the Smuggler was a labor of love—and I definitely mean labor. The costume took approximately nine weeks with a full month of nearly non-stop sewing. It was the first time I ever physically constructed piece of clothing, the first time I embroidered, and—well, it was a first, that’s for sure! I’m immensely proud of how she turned out, if only the odds were stacked against me as a completely novice seamstress undertaking a technically challenging costume … and doing it.
